What to expect during this voyage

You'll be boarding the ship in Rotterdam. Tall ship Twister will be waiting for you in the Veerhaven, a small harbour downtown.

The crew will welcome you with coffee and tea and show you your cabin. After getting acquainted with your fellow participants the crew provides safety instructions before we set sail.

One of the unique features of this journey is that everyone on board is invited to help sailing the ship. This is not mandatory and the experienced crew will explain all maneuvers and guide the process. You will arrive in Belem as an able seaman/woman!

Depending on current, waves and wind a course will be taken to Fowey. If the winds are fair the tour will be sailed in one stretch. If the weather is less favorable the captain can decide to make an extra stopover.

A welcome distraction on board are the specially prepared meals. Our chef prepares fresh meals. The standard menu on board is vegetarian. Special diets can be taken into account.

During the sailing there is time to explain sail trim, charts, the compass, GPS, navigation, stars, wind and keeping the logbook.

After Fowey the voyage will continue to A Coruña in the north of Spain. A well-known maritime city with a rich history.

On our way to A Coruña the Tall Ship Twister will cross the Bay of Biscay where we'll encounter the long waves coming from the Atlantic Ocean. Depending on the weather conditions, this can result in spectacular sailing conditions.

After a well deserved stopover in A Coruña the voyage will continue to Lisbon. We have planned to stay here for a couple of days to provision Twister for the longer stretches, giving you the opportunity to visit the wonderful city center.

Leaving Lisbon we have started the epic crossing of the Atlantic! To break up the long time at sea we have planned a two days stop at the Canary Island and a two days stop at the Cape Verdes. Providing you some time to stretch your legs on the volcano Teide of Tenerife or visit the forest at the Cape Verdes.

On the long stretch from the Cape Verdes to Belém the equator will be crossed and King Neptune will most likely visit to the Twister initiating you to King Neptune’s court for crossing the equator. A ritual that sailors perform for centuries.

Seeing land on the horizon after being at sea for a longer period is a very special moment. We have made it to Belem! We sail up the river to anchor and celebrate our successful crossing. Ready to rock COP30!
